Your body needs sleep!

Sleep is our most important choice for a healthy and strong body. We spend about a third of our lives sleeping, but far too many underestimate the importance of a good night's sleep. Sleep is not just a passive state where the body relaxes - it is an active process that is crucial for our health and well-being. By prioritizing a good night's sleep, we give our body and brain the best conditions to function optimally.

Sleep does wonders for your health:

Throughout the day, the body uses energy, and as this energy is burned, waste products accumulate in the brain. The brain and body in general need time to clean up, reduce energy levels, and get ready for a new day.

During sleep, these waste products are broken down and removed, so we wake up fresh and well-rested.

The brain's nightly cleaning system

The brain's own "cleaning machine" is primarily activated while we sleep, and ensures that the brain is cleaned, waste products are transported out of the brain, blood vessels are kept in shape, information is stored in memory and body tissues are rebuilt.

The consequences of lack of sleep

If we don't get enough sleep, the brain's "cleaning machine" doesn't function optimally. This means that waste products build up, which affects mood, memory, concentration and energy levels.

How many hours of sleep per night is optimal?

The best health benefits require adults to sleep between 7-9 hours, teenagers 8-10 hours, children 9-12 hours, and the elderly at least 7 hours.

Prepare for the night by shutting down the day and emptying your brain.

  • Avoid mind-wandering – write down the next day's tasks so they don't come with you to bed.
  • Preferably do not eat approx. 2 hours before bedtime
  • Avoid coffee and alcohol from the beginning of the evening. It disrupts sleep.
  • Turn off the TV, mobile phone, etc. ½-1 hour before bedtime
  • Regular sleep routine – go to bed and get up close to the same time every day
  • A dark and cool bedroom promotes deeper sleep

Treat your body, brain and health to a good night's sleep. You'll get SO much in return 😴
