Vitamin pills should preferably be taken after a meal and never on an empty stomach. Otherwise, they will disappear very quickly in the urine. This is especially true of the water-soluble B and C vitamins. It would be best if you could take them during the day in small portions. Since this is not practically possible, they should be taken after the main meal – or together with the fattest meal of the day. It would therefore usually be best to take them with dinner. This way, the fat-soluble vitamins in particular are absorbed best.
It is not a good idea to take the vitamin pill with breakfast. Breakfast is often lean, for example cornflakes and oatmeal with skimmed milk or bread with jam. The fat-soluble vitamins are not utilized at all. The diet should also preferably contain 10-20 grams of fat per day to ensure good absorption of the fat-soluble vitamins.
